What is a design idea?
A design idea is a thought about how to make something new or improve something that already exists. It starts in your mind, then becomes a sketch, then a model, then a real product!
Start with a problem
Good design ideas come from real problems. Ask: what is hard or annoying? What is missing? What could be better? The answer to those questions is your design problem to solve!
It is okay to have many ideas
Designers write down ALL their ideas, even the silly ones! Sometimes the silliest idea leads to the greatest invention. Never throw away an idea before trying it.
Sketch your idea
Once you have an idea, sketch it on paper. Label the parts. Show how it works. A sketch turns your invisible idea into something you can see and share with others!
