Creative Model Building

Use your hands to build 3D models from everyday materials!

๐ŸŸค
Clay
Roll, press, and shape clay into any form you want!
๐Ÿ“ฆ
Cardboard
Cut and fold cardboard to make boxes and flat shapes.
๐Ÿงฑ
Building Blocks
Stack and connect blocks to build tall structures!
๐Ÿ–Š๏ธ
Tape & Glue
Join parts together to build bigger and stronger things!
โœ‹ Activity: Build Your Animal

Using clay, cardboard scraps, and tape, build a simple animal of your choice. Before building, sketch it on paper! Think: What shapes will the body, head, and legs be?

๐Ÿง  Connection to 3D Printing

When you build with clay, you are doing what a 3D printer does โ€” creating a 3D object from scratch! The big difference is that a 3D printer follows a computer design. Someday, you will design objects on a computer and the printer will build them for you.

Required Materials

  • Modeling clay
  • Cardboard scraps
  • Tape and glue
  • Scissors (teacher-supervised)
  • Drawing paper and pencil
