Apply the complete Grade 6 Advanced Designer skillset — from empathise through brief, CAD modeling, multi-component assembly, print, iteration, and presentation.
Learn — read and understand
Phase 1 — Empathise, Define, Brief (1 lesson)
Choose a real user in your classroom or school. Observe them for 5 minutes. Interview with 3 questions. Write a POV statement. Write a full design brief: user, problem statement, 6+ testable success criteria (with pass/fail test for each), MoSCoW constraint list (minimum 3 Musts, 2 Shoulds, 1 Won't). Submit brief for teacher approval before proceeding to Phase 2.
Generate 5+ design ideas (sketched). Complete a decision matrix using the brief criteria. Select the highest-scoring idea. Model in Tinkercad: minimum 2 Boolean subtractions, at least one design principle applied with justification, all shapes named, all critical dimensions verified with Ruler tool. Apply correct fit tolerance if multi-component. Save version log: v1 entry.
Phase 3 — Print V1 and Evaluate (1 lesson)
Slice V1: document all 5 slicer settings used and justification for each. Print. Observe first layer — record observations. Complete evaluation rubric against all 6 success criteria: score 1–4, measurement evidence for each. Collect user feedback (one quantitative, one qualitative, one observational data point). Perform root cause analysis for all criteria below 3/4. Write ECRs for V2.
Phases 4–5 — Model V2, Print, Present
Model V2 implementing all ECR changes. Update version log. Print V2. Re-evaluate same criteria — document improvement. Prepare 7-part presentation (8 min): (1) User + POV statement, (2) Design brief highlights, (3) Ideation — 5 ideas + matrix, (4) V1 CAD decisions, (5) V1 evaluation + measurements, (6) ECRs and V2 changes, (7) V2 evaluation vs V1. Bring both printed versions to presentation.

Tap to reveal
Score 4/4: Exemplary
All evidence is quantified. Every claim is backed by a measurement or observation. V2 improvements are precisely documented with before/after measurements.
Tap to reveal
Score 3/4: Proficient
Most evidence is quantified. Most improvements are documented. Minor gaps in measurement evidence or ECR detail.
Tap to reveal
Score 2/4: Developing
Some evidence is provided but relies on description rather than measurement. V2 changes are not fully justified with root cause analysis.
Tap to reveal
Score 1/4: Beginning
Evidence is descriptive only. No measurements provided. No root cause analysis. V2 changes are guesses, not evidence-based decisions.
