Flat shapes (2D)
Flat shapes have only length and width. You can draw them on paper! Examples: circle, square, triangle, rectangle. The "2D" means two dimensions.
Solid shapes (3D)
Solid shapes have length, width, AND height — you can hold them in your hand! Examples: cube, sphere, cylinder, pyramid. The "3D" means three dimensions.
2D becomes 3D
When you fold a flat shape or stack it up, it becomes a 3D solid! A flat square folded into a box becomes a cube.
