Design and conduct structured tests on your models — and use results to make better designs.

Why testing is not optional
Untested designs are just guesses. Testing turns guesses into knowledge. A bridge model must be tested with actual weight. A container must be tested for leakage. A vehicle must be tested on the actual surface it will travel. Testing reveals what theory cannot predict.
Fair testing: controlling variables
A fair test changes only one thing at a time. If you want to know whether a thicker wall makes a model stronger, only change the wall thickness — keep everything else the same. If you change two things at once, you cannot know which change made the difference.
Recording test results
Test results must be written down systematically: what you tested, what you expected, what actually happened, and what you conclude. Without records, you forget what worked and repeat the same mistakes. A simple table is the best format for recording test data.
Using results to redesign
Test results directly drive redesign decisions. If the roof of your model collapses under 200g of weight but you need it to hold 500g, you know you need a stronger structure. The test result — not your opinion — drives the design change. This is engineering thinking.

Before testing: write what you are testing, what you expect to happen, and how you will measure the result.

Fair test
Change only ONE thing at a time. Keep all other conditions the same. Otherwise your results are unreliable!

Record results
Write what happened in a table: Test → Expected → Actual → Conclusion. Never rely on memory.

Redesign from data
Let the test results — not opinions — drive your changes. "The data shows the wall needs to be 5mm thicker."
